Jesolo Spirituals warms up the Christmas spirit with the voices and music of three renowned groups: The Charleston Gospel Choir, The Gospel Voices Family, and The Women of God.

Concert schedule:

Saturday, December 28, 2024, 9:00 p.m. – Vivaldi Theater –
The Charleston Gospel Choir
The Charleston Gospel Choir is a prestigious ensemble from Charleston, South Carolina, one of the states where the African American religious musical tradition—both gospel and spirituals—is most widespread and deeply felt.

A full-fledged choir, consisting of eight singers and four musicians led by Tony Washington, a talented singer and falsetto specialist, but also a versatile musician who composes all of the group’s arrangements. The Charleston Gospel Choir offers a fusion of traditional European sacred hymns and African-American vocal styles rooted in the African origins of the blues. It is a style of music that critics have dubbed “gospel & rhythm”—original and creative, capable of blending gospel, rhythm & blues, rap, and funk.

Wednesday, January 1, 2025, 8:30 p.m. – Church of St. John the Baptist – Jesolo Paese
The Gospel Voices Family
The Gospel Voices Family is a project launched in 2018 that quickly gained fame in Italy thanks to collaborations with prestigious figures in the international “black music” scene. Keyboardist Dario Dal Molin, one of Italy’s leading specialists in this musical genre, together with a talented vocal quartet from various countries, presents a selection of classic and modern pieces from the vast gospel repertoire.

The group blends the diverse traditions of its members into a unique and evocative performance, in which modern forms of gospel blend with the more traditional styles of spirituals.

Saturday, January 4, 2025, 9:00 p.m. – Teatro Vivaldi in Jesolo –
The Women of God
Women o Goda is an extraordinary ensemble composed of six Black female singers and a three-piece Italian band (piano, bass, and drums). Their performances are a true “portrait in time,” exploring a musical genre—gospel—that has inspired musicians from every corner of the world. On stage, alongside a vast repertoire of African American religious music and Christmas songs, the voices of true legends of “black music”—such as Mahalia Jackson, Clara Ward, and Rosetta Tharpe, to name just a few—come to life. Through captivating and evocative music, the Women of God spread the Good News throughout the world, carrying a message of peace and love of which women have always been a symbol.
