WHAT IS HOLI – Holi is one of the oldest Hindu celebrations of the spring season and draws thousands of people from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan. Known as the festival of colors, joy, love, and fun, during the two-day festivities, entire villages sing and dance, throwing colored powder and water at one another.

The festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the end of winter. But it is also a time for gathering and pure enjoyment. It is a day when sorrows are forgotten and forgiveness is offered. On this occasion, rigid social structures also break down: rich and poor, old and young, men and women celebrate and joke together.

WHAT HAPPENS – The event involves throwing colorful, scented powder into the air at the end of countdowns led by vocalists or DJs on stage, usually once every hour. Everyone dances and gets “colored” together. We recommend wearing white cotton clothing. The powders are natural and non-toxic; they’re made of talc and cornstarch, contain no heavy metals, are 100% eco-friendly, and can be purchased within the festival grounds at official “Holi” stands, which guarantee the product’s authenticity.

WHO IT’S FOR – Everyone. There are no age restrictions for participating in Holi, the festival of colors; it’s open to everyone, young and old alike. The only “rule”: a desire to have fun together peacefully, in keeping with the spirit of this Indian festival.

THE STORY – The Festival of Colors was conceived a few years ago by two event managers from the Veneto region, who were the first to bring this format to Italy—a concept that has been increasingly emulated over the years. Holi on Tour draws inspiration from the traditional Indian festival and blends it with DJ sets ranging from electronic music to Hip Hop. The early events in Padua and Vicenza generated a lot of buzz online, with photos of the “kiss” going viral on Facebook and Instagram. The format then went national. From Rome to Bologna, passing through Florence and Milan all the way to Venice and Trieste, it has touched every corner of Italy, from beaches to cities. The Festival also featured prominently in the filming of the movie “Forever Young” by director Fausto Brizzi, and the phenomenon of the colorful selfie has been the subject of sociological study. A true trend that has taken the world by storm and, stop after stop, has recorded staggering numbers: over seven editions, it has attracted more than 650,000 participants of all ages and cultures.

CHARITY – Beyond the music and entertainment, however, what sets the Festival of Colors apart from other events that have copied it (in the wake of the phenomenon’s viral popularity) is the charitable mission of Fabio Lazzari and Marco Bari, the event managers who were the first to bring this traditional Indian festival to Italy. And it is precisely to that vast Asian nation that they direct their attention: since the festival’s inception, in fact, Lazzari and Bari have been raising funds for the Fondazione Fratelli Dimenticati in Cittadella, which helps hearing-impaired children in a village in India. The Fondazione Fratelli Dimenticati is a non-profit organization based in Cittadella that funds a project in Nandanagar, a village in northeastern India where the Ferrando School was established in 2006. This school welcomes hearing-impaired children with the goal of providing early intervention in the diagnosis and treatment of deafness through therapeutic programs.

FAQ:

– The powders do not cause food intolerance issues, as they are gluten-free and made from all-natural, organic ingredients. We do, however, recommend that you bring eye and/or mouth protection.

– Since these colors are completely natural, they are fully washable. However, we recommend that you don’t wear your best clothes so you can enjoy the party more.

– We recommend wearing white clothing to make the color effect of the colored powders stand out more.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

▶ The composition of Holi powder

Holi powders are composed of 99% pharmaceutical-grade talc, 0.5% food-grade dye, and 0.5% natural fragrance: they are non-toxic, contain no heavy metals, and are 100% eco-friendly, non-flammable, and non-explosive, as demonstrated by the certificates issued by the manufacturer—a company with all the necessary certifications that has been producing and distributing Holi Colors worldwide for 50 years.

▶ Tips and precautions

Since Holi Colors are powders, they can irritate the respiratory tract if inhaled in large quantities, especially when mixed with sweat or thrown forcefully onto the body—particularly the face and eyes. We recommend avoiding direct inhalation and advise against participation for those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

We recommend wearing protective sunglasses or swimming goggles to minimize contact with the eyes, as well as face masks or bandanas, especially for those with sensitive skin and children.

Although the colors are made from natural and eco-friendly ingredients, they are not edible.

▶ How to clean your clothes and body

On a very hot and humid day, or when mixed with water, Holi Colors can release more food coloring, which seeps into the dilated pores of the skin. While this causes no harm, it makes removing the color more difficult. The recommendation is to remove as much powder as possible using air blowers or by tapping the affected area, and only then wash with water and shampoo; it is also recommended to mix shampoo with baking soda, take a couple of showers, and then treat any remaining residue with body lotion. The color usually fades within a few days; do not attempt to remove any stains by mixing multiple chemical products.

Neither the supplier nor the event organizer is responsible for any lingering stains, nor are they liable for any misuse of the products.
